Best Summer Photo Locations in Dallas-Fort Worth for Families, Couples & Senior Sessions
Summer in Texas can be HOT. Between triple-digit temperatures, unpredictable weather, and dried-out grass, many people assume summer isn't a good time for photos.
But honestly? Some of my favorite sessions happen during the summer months.
The key is choosing the right location.
As a DFW photographer, I'm constantly scouting locations that not only photograph beautifully but also help clients stay comfortable during those warmer months. Whether you're planning family photos, engagement photos, a proposal, couples session, or senior portraits, these are some of my favorite summer locations in Dallas-Fort Worth.
1. Fort Worth Botanic Garden
The Fort Worth Botanic Garden is one of the best summer locations in DFW because it offers so much variety in one place.
One of the biggest advantages during the summer months is that many of the plants and gardens are in full bloom, creating beautiful color and texture throughout your gallery.
The gardens also make summer sessions more comfortable thanks to:
*Water refill stations throughout the property
*Multiple restroom locations
*Shaded pathways
*Plenty of places to take short breaks if needed
Another reason I love this location is because every section feels completely different. You can easily create multiple looks within one session without ever leaving the property.
Whether you're looking for lush greenery, colorful flowers, garden pathways, bridges, or more classic scenery, the Fort Worth Botanic Garden has something for everyone.
2. Dallas Arboretum
The Dallas Arboretum is another summer favorite for many of the same reasons.
The grounds are beautifully maintained year-round, but summer brings so much life and color to the gardens.
Just like the Fort Worth Botanic Garden, you'll find:
*Beautiful seasonal blooms
*Water stations
*Restrooms throughout the property
*Plenty of shade in many areas
*Multiple backgrounds throughout one location
One thing I love about the Arboretum is how polished and timeless it feels. It photographs beautifully for families, couples, engagements, proposals, and senior sessions.
No matter where you turn, there always seems to be another beautiful backdrop waiting around the corner.
3. Airfield Falls | Westlake, Texas
If you're looking for a location that doesn't feel like Texas, Airfield Falls is one of my favorite hidden gems.
This location offers so much variety packed into a relatively small area:
*Waterfall
*River access
*Willow tree
*Open grassy field
*Natural greenery
*Walking trails
One of the biggest reasons Airfield Falls makes this list is because water can be a lifesaver during the summer months.
Depending on your session, you're able to safely access both the waterfall area and portions of the river, making it a fun option for adventurous families, couples, and seniors.
Another huge bonus is the walk.
Unlike some nature locations that require long hikes, Airfield Falls is only about a quarter to half-mile walk along a paved path with shade along much of the route.
It's easy enough for families with young children while still offering a unique backdrop that stands out from other DFW locations.
4. Murrell Park | Lake Grapevine
If someone asks me where to find the best sunset in DFW, Murrell Park is almost always one of my first recommendations.
The combination of lake views, cliffs, open shoreline, tall grass, and golden sunsets creates an absolutely stunning backdrop.
Summer evenings at Murrell Park are especially beautiful because the lake helps create a little relief from the heat while giving us incredible reflections and color during sunset.
Another reason families and couples love this location is that water access is available if desired.
Whether you're splashing near the shoreline, letting kids play near the water, or simply enjoying the view, Murrell Park offers a relaxed atmosphere that photographs beautifully.
This location works especially well for:
*Families
*Engagement sessions
*Couples sessions
*Proposals
*Senior portraits
5. The Sunflower Field in Bowie
If you've ever dreamed of photos surrounded by giant sunflowers, this location is worth the drive.
Located in Bowie, Texas, this locally owned sunflower farm is operated by a husband-and-wife team and features approximately three acres of beautiful sunflowers.
The biggest thing to know about sunflower season is that it's SHORT.
Much like bluebonnets, sunflowers don't stick around long.
Typically, blooms begin appearing in early June and are mostly gone by early July, giving photographers and families only about three to four weeks to enjoy them each year.
Because the bloom window is so limited, sessions tend to book quickly once the flowers appear.
When conditions are right, the fields create one of the most unique summer backdrops you'll find anywhere in North Texas.
