Should I Hire a Photographer for My Proposal?


If Preserving the Moment Matters to You, Then Yes.


One of the most common questions I hear from people planning a proposal is whether hiring a photographer is actually worth it.


After all, proposals happen quickly.


The moment itself might only last a few seconds. One question is asked, one answer is given, and suddenly you're engaged.


It's easy to think that maybe a friend could take a photo. Maybe a family member could hide nearby with their phone. Maybe you'll just remember the moment and skip photography altogether.


But after photographing proposals throughout Dallas-Fort Worth, I've learned something important.


The proposal itself happens incredibly fast.


The photographs are what allow you to relive it forever.


Years from now, you probably won't remember every word that was said. You won't remember exactly where your hands were or what expression was on your face when you realized what was happening.


But photographs allow you to revisit those emotions.


The surprise.

The excitement.

The tears.

The laughter.

The moment your entire future changed.


That's why I believe proposal photography is one of the most meaningful investments a couple can make.

One of my favorite things about proposals is that no two are exactly the same.


Some are intimate and private.

Some involve family and friends hiding nearby.

Some take place in parks, gardens, wineries, or overlooking city skylines.

Some include elaborate setups with flowers and candles.

Others are beautifully simple.


What they all have in common is that they only happen once.


I've photographed proposals where family members watched from a distance while trying not to cry.

I've photographed proposals where friends quietly celebrated from nearby tables.

I've photographed moments where complete strangers became invested in the story unfolding in front of them and started cheering once the answer was yes.


There is something special about witnessing one of the happiest moments in someone's life.

And there is something equally special about preserving it.

One thing many people don't realize is that when you hire me for a proposal, you're getting much more than someone who simply shows up and takes pictures.


Most proposal clients start reaching out weeks or even months in advance.

Some already know exactly where they want to propose.

Others know they want to propose but have absolutely no idea where to begin.


Both are completely normal.


One of my favorite parts of proposal photography is helping plan the experience from start to finish.


We'll talk through location ideas, timing, parking, family involvement, and logistics. If needed, I'll scout the location beforehand and send an exact pin of where I recommend proposing.


That way there are no questions about where everyone should be when the moment arrives.


Trust me, nerves are high enough on proposal day without trying to guess where you're supposed to stand.

Another thing I love about proposal photography is that the experience doesn't end once the question has been asked.


In fact, some of my favorite photos happen afterward.


Once the proposal is over and introductions have been made, we transition into a short engagement session.


The emotions are still fresh.

The excitement is still real.

The smiles are effortless.


And before they even leave the proposal location, couples already have both proposal photos and their very first engagement photos together.
